I have up-to-date Paediatric First Aid Certification from the Irish Red Cross.
I have always had a big interest in working with people with disabilities or special needs, focusing on assisting them to be as independent as they wish to be - despite health difficulties or physical/intellectual/mental health challenges. This is why I studied Health Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), with a particular focus on Occupational Therapy. Since I was 17 years of age I have been volunteering with organisations that assist children with disabilities, such as Big Brother/Big Sister (Foróige), Arthritis Ireland (including Juvenile Arthritis), NUIG Best Buddies (an organisation that organises paired activities with people with Down Syndrome or Austism) and SBHI - Spina Bifida & Hydrocephaluss Ireland (where I trained and assisted at Summer-camps/Independent Holidays for adults and Respite Weekends for children). I have also been a childminder to children with extra sensory needs. I am interested in continuing to learn about all ranges of special needs so that I can best look after children in my care.
I have experience minding babies from 6 months old, with tasks including all-things-baby such as feeding, changing, keeping baby engaged and happy, putting to bed, etc. I am interested in minding babies under this age too. I am a quick learner, a mature and responsible childminder and I take parents' instructions very seriously. I am currently a Nanny for a 7-month old baby and her older sisters.
