About Me

My name is Aisling Garland, and I am a friendly, responsible, and caring individual currently studying for a Master’s in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Limerick. I have a strong interest in child development and communication, which underpins my enthusiasm for childminding and babysitting roles. With a background in healthcare and customer service, I bring excellent communication skills, a calm and compassionate nature, and a professional, reliable attitude to everything I do. I am CPR certified and have completed HSE training in Child First and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, ensuring I can provide a safe and supportive environment for children. I enjoy creating positive, engaging experiences for children and am currently expanding my communication skills. My organised nature, patience, and experience working in busy, fast-paced environments make me well-suited to supporting families with their childcare needs.

My Experience

Special Needs Experience

Yes, I have experience working with children with additional needs through my student Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) placement. I’ve had the opportunity to support and interact with children presenting with a range of developmental and communication difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder, developmental language disorder, and global developmental delay. During placement, I worked closely with SLTs to observe and assist in therapy sessions, adapt communication strategies, and create a supportive, inclusive environment. These experiences have given me a deeper understanding of individual needs and the importance of patience, flexibility, and clear communication when supporting children with additional needs.

Experience with Children Under 2 Years

Yes, I have experience with babies under 2 years of age. I’ve regularly cared for younger family members, including babies and toddlers, supporting with feeding, nappy changes, and playtime, while following their routines and ensuring their safety and comfort. In addition, as a student Speech and Language Therapist, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with infants and toddlers during placement, observing early developmental milestones and engaging in age-appropriate communication and play. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of infant needs and behaviours, and I always approach this age group with warmth, patience, and attentiveness.
