Child Minding Qualifications
My experience with children started when my nephew Mattheus was born. At that time, my brother was a single father and needed the support of the family to help him raise his son. I used to help with my nephew’s food, oral hygiene, bath, and later I helped him with his homework. We also played a lot and he loved when I told stories. It was very satisfying to see Mattheus grow up to be an independent, responsible, polite and sympathetic teenager! Working at the bank, I felt that my skills of dealing with children - my most creative and humane side - were being left aside. That was when I opened my eyes to the ones that were next to me and needing attention. Some friends and I had the idea of organizing a volunteer-work project with children from a poor community in the outskirts of the town where I live. In the project, called “PertenSER” or “Belonging”, we used to plan, prepare and spend a special day with the children from the community. We used to take care of the food and the games and activities, the gifts each child would get, the decoration and everything else. But the main goal was to increase the children’s self esteem and create on them the idea that they can do or be much more than they thought they could. Before coming to Dublin, I took care of 2 children, a 4 year old boy and a 7 year old girl with feeding, oral hygiene, bathing, and I used to help with her homework. We also played a lot and they loved when I told stories. I used to plan the day's activities, games and outdoor activities while the parents worked. And also some friends took short trips and left their children with me for the weekend.
